Welcome to our new team members

We are pleased to advise that we have appointed Sarah Oswald and Sue Hughes to join MDY in two fixed-term roles.

Sue will start from 23rd January, and Sarah from 30th January. We are very much looking forward to welcoming them both to the team.

Here is a brief introduction to Sarah and Sue.

Sarah Oswald, Museum Development Officer, North Yorkshire

Sarah Oswald is a heritage professional with 25 years’ experience, working with organisations of all sizes. As The Authentic Spark she has been providing coaching, mentoring, training and consultancy services to museums and heritage sites for the last six years.

Prior to this Sarah was a Director of PLB Projects Ltd, delivering strategic consultancy and interpretive design projects for museums, galleries, and a range of historic sites. Sarah also has hands-on experience delivering a community heritage service in Chester, working with volunteers and partner organisations.

Sarah is a qualified coach with experience in developing teams and organisations and supporting individuals. She is a mentor for National Lottery Heritage Fund, an AMA mentor for Museums Association and professional development mentor for Group for Education in Museums.

Sue Hughes, Museum Development Officer, Workforce Development

Sue Hughes has worked in museums and heritage for over 30 years, starting out in the South West before moving back to her home region.  In the North West, Sue was Manager of Knowsley Museums and Director of museums in Cheshire West and Cheshire East before moving to Scotland in 2018.

Since 2018, Sue has worked on a number of resilient heritage programmes and supported organisations transitioning from capital projects to operational.  Most recently she launched a new centre delivering arts, heritage and wellbeing programmes in Dumfries.  Away from museums, Sue is a textile artist, a herbal historian and a demonstrator of amazing kitchen gadgets and recipes through the ages.
