Frequently Asked Questions

Can all museums take part?

Learning cohorts are open to museums of all sizes and types in the region.

We welcome all museums based in Yorkshire and the Humber as members of cohorts, including NPOs (National Portfolio Organisations),  National Museums and museums who are working towards accreditation and in certain circumstances museums who have committed to become accredited.

Please note that NPOs and National Museums are not eligible for MDY grant funding and mentoring support if this is on offer to the cohort.

How many cohorts can a museum join?

Your museum can be involved in as many cohorts as you have ability to attend. Cohorts may involve approximately  2-6 one-day (or equivalent) meetings over the course of the year, as well as a commitment to implementing new learning in your museum.

When expressing an interest, please consider the capacity of your staff or volunteers for being involved in sessions, and implementing new practices as an outcome of the cohort.

To benefit fully from participating, we expect a commitment by one lead person to attend all meetings. Some museums will also find it helpful to send a second or different attendees to different meetings.
