Round Four of the MEND Fund opens with £23.8 million in grants

Funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and delivered by Arts Council England, this new fourth stage of funding has a pot of £23.8 million to distribute. The grants on offer are between £50,000 and £5 million.

The Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND) provides funding for repairs to non-national Accredited museums in England or local authorities responsible for the maintenance of non-national Accredited museum buildings.

Museums can apply for funding to undertake vital infrastructure projects and urgent maintenance. By improving core infrastructure, the MEND fund will support museums to achieve a range of outcomes, including improving access for disabled people, increasing the environmental performance of buildings, and strengthening contributions to local communities. For the full list of supported outcomes, follow the link at the bottom of the page to the Arts Council Website.

So far, the MEND fund has supported 67 projects and has awarded a total of £40 million in funding. This includes Scarborough’s Rotunda Museum based in Yorkshire. This museum had their stonework repairs for the building’s façade funded in 2021 and received approximately £250,000.

The Expression of Interest form opens at 9am on Monday 4th March 2024. The deadline for Expressions of Interest is midday on Thursday 18th April 2024.
