Marking and Labelling Objects

What will be covered?

Labelling and marking of objects is part of the Spectrum Acquisition and Accessioning procedure, a Primary Procedure, which is required to be in place for Museum Accreditation. This workshop will introduce the different equipment, materials and techniques used for marking objects. The session will also include hands-on activities to put knowledge into practice.

If possible, attendees are requested to bring marking and labelling equipment from their organisation.

  • Labelling and marking within the context of Accreditation and compliance with the Spectrum standard

This session is being run in partnership between Museum Development Yorkshire and the Collections Trust. The Collections Trust offer free training and advice through their ACE-funded outreach programme, working closely with the museum development network.

The session will be led by Sarah Brown. Sarah is the face of Collections Trust around the country, and works closely with the museum development network across the English regions to deliver free, ACE-funded events on a range of collections management topics. Sarah is the person to contact with your collection management queries.

Who should attend?

  • Museum staff and volunteers involved in collections management and collections care, and who may be required to label objects in their role.
  • Those who are new to the subject as well as those in need of a refresher.

Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided on the day. There are no catering facilities at this venue. Please bring your own lunch.
