ABTEM – Guidance for Care of Larger & Working Historic Objects

This seminar has been arranged in partnership with ABTEM and the Yorkshire & Humberside Federation of Museums & Galleries.

ABTEM initiated and supported the recent publication of new Guidelines for the Care and Operation of Larger & Working Historic Objects in response to many working in the industrial and transport heritage sector concerned about the lack of up-to-date guidance about the care and conservation of their larger and working objects.

The programme will include a presentation by the consultants that worked with ABTEM to complete the new Guidelines – International Railway Heritage Consultancy (IRHC). Four case studies illustrating good practice will include:

The water wheels of Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet
Ravenglass Big Saloon
Leyland/Eastern Coach Works single deck bus
There will also be an opportunity to consider how we can make use of and promote the Guidelines and to look at some of the industrial collections in the care of Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust.

The free seminar will include a hot meal and tea and coffee. Full programme will be provided following registration.

Development of the new Guidelines and this seminar have been made possible by generous financial support from Arts Council England – http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/
