Tackling a Collections Store Project
Join us for conversation between a range of museums services in the region about how they are approaching plans for new and refurbished storage facilities. How to go about this in a sustainable way? And what issues or criteria do we consider?
Reopening Special – Lessons from Covid for Environmental Sustainability
Ben Melham, a specialist in estates and visitor services, joins us to reflect on what our response to Covid has shown us about doing things differently as we move forwards. What positive learning can we take from this experience? How can it help us to make our museums more resilient and sustainable?
This session, led by Bridget McKenzie and Victoria Burns from Climate Museum UK, will explore how museums can respond as museums to the climate and ecological crisis – using collections, programming, and work with audiences, to enable people to gain awareness, reflect and take action.
We will explore how the social role of museums can support people and communities as they grapple with this global threat.
Welcoming (Back) Visitors
MDY Museum Forums are a chance to connect with colleagues from your region, share your experiences and and discuss the issues that are important to you.
Suitable for those new to the Spectrum collections management standard or in need of a refresher, this online session will offer a bitesize introduction. Volunteers, beginners, trustees or managers are all welcome.
We will discuss how a Spectrum 5.0 procedure works, how Spectrum might be applied within your own organisation, and briefly introduce the primary procedures for Accreditation. There will be opportunities to ask questions throughout, as well as to submit any questions in advance.
Industrial Collections in a Climate Crisis
The Brew Up brings together people who work with industrial collections in Yorkshire. Join Dieter Hopkin to connect with colleagues in the region, discuss the issues surrounding industrial collections and and ask questions.
How is your museum responding to the climate emergency? What could be the role of the museum in bringing into being a different world: a world that does not own the Earth, but instead contributes to a regenerative culture and community?
Explore a strategic framework to help your museum explore, respond and adapt to the expected impacts of climate change, locally and beyond.
This workshop will:
Reflect on the expected impacts of climate change in your locality and beyond
Consider the additional impact of Covid-19
Explore your museum’s role in a climate-changed world
Discuss and apply a framework for strategic organisational adaptation to climate change
