Welcoming (Back) Visitors
MDY Museum Forums are a chance to connect with colleagues from your region, share your experiences and and discuss the issues that are important to you.
This session, led by Bridget McKenzie and Victoria Burns from Climate Museum UK, will explore how museums can respond as museums to the climate and ecological crisis – using collections, programming, and work with audiences, to enable people to gain awareness, reflect and take action.
We will explore how the social role of museums can support people and communities as they grapple with this global threat.
The potential for museums to deliver elements of their programme online has become clear as a result of the pandemic. This will be a very practical session to support you if you are thinking about incorporating online schools learning into your programme.
Are you thinking of improving your museum? Fixing the roof? Building an extension? Moving to a new site? Developing a new gallery or a whole new museum or store? Now or in 5 years’ time. We have a fantastic array of guests – Heather Lane from Museum of North Craven Life who have spent lockdown on important infrastructure repairs, Danielle Daglan from Craven Museum and Skipton Town Hall which has had a major restoration project creating a cultural hub for the Craven district, and Nat Edwards from the Thackray Museum of Medicine which has just reopened following a major redevelopment of the museum.
Are you thinking of applying to Arts Council England MEND fund? Join us for an informal chat with guest Katharine Boardman, Arts Council England’s Relationship Manager – Museums, to find out about this urgent opportunity and what an application might involve.
The turnaround time is short – Expressions of Interest must be submitted by Mon 5 July – but if you have capital works ready and waiting for funding, this might be the opportunity for you! Join us, to help decide if you should take this further.
Inclusive Recruitment and CPD
We’ll be exploring strategies and approaches to inclusive recruitment with guest Tamsin Russell, Workforce Development Officer at the Museums Association. Understand the opportunities and drivers for action, and gain practical advice for more inclusive recruitment practices. Tamsin will also be happy to chat about your Continuing Professional Development opportunities via the MA.
Collections Documentation Priorities
What collections documentation priorities are emerging for you and others after over a year of restricted site access? Join us with guest, Sarah Brown from Collections Trust, to explore trends and potential needs for collections documentation which have arisen since the start of the pandemic, and to think about how Spectrum 5.0 or opportunities with Collections Trust might support your museum’s needs.
